Fun fact: l was literally putting the punctuation marks of the subtitles from this video that I downloaded into a Word file (the website from which l got them did not include them), because this guy has the best anglophone accent I've ever heard in my life and l'm helping a good friend of mine with his English as a Second Language pronunciation... and here l am, finding out about this website! God sometimes rewards kindness with kindness. :D
We want excess material things others have because society says that is what makes you respectable, admirable, and even worthwhile: otherwise you are nothing. It's all so childish and yet, widespread. Some people catch on to the tiresome game, and refuse to play, and perhaps more are catching on sooner in life. Whatever happened to the "trophy wife" and the male counterpart? The gas-guzzling car? Clothes fashion that demand entire new wardrobes every year? Heavy women wear horizontal stripes if they feel so inclined, and nobody gives a damn, in fact the merciful introduction of jeans has narrowed the clothes scene to the label - and it often isn't detectable. Small houses are now in vogue and generally, "less is more". Wealthy people now play down their economic status - because it's boring, and perhaps even dangerous, although the wealthy still interbreed, as in F Scott Fitzgerald. I see this as a trend toward the inevitable socialism, if we are to survive spiritually and physically.
So stoked you have a substack. Keep making the world at large a little more digestible.
